A simple and efficientsynthesis of 14-substituted-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes and 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes has been accomplished by the one-pot condensation of β-naphthol or dimedone and aldehydes undersolvent-freeconditions in the presence of SiO2-Cl as a heterogeneous catalyst.
