An efficient and direct procedure for the synthesis of amidoalkyl naphthols has been described that employs a three-component condensation reaction in one pot using aromatic aldehydes, β-naphthol and ureas or amides in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid in 1,2-dichloroethane at room temperature or undersolvent-freeconditions at elevated temperature.

Abstract One‐pot, three‐component condensation of 2‐naphthol, amides/ureas, and aldehydes takes place smoothly in the presence of cation‐exchange resins to afford the corresponding 1‐amidoalkyl‐2‐naphthols in good yield. Indion‐130 is found to be the best catalyst for the reaction and is recyclable. The method is simple, solvent free, and involves a short reaction time.
Silica gel-supported polyphosphoric acid (PPA-SiO2) was found to be an efficient catalyst for the multicomponent condensation reaction of aryl aldehydes, 2-naphthol, and urea or amides to afford the corresponding 1-amidoalkyl-2-naphthols in good to excellent yields. This new approach consistently had short reaction times, high conversions, clean reaction profiles, and simple experimental and workup procedures.

Preparation of 1-amidoalkyl-2-naphthol derivatives using barium phosphate nano-powders
Barium phosphate (Ba-3(PO4)(2)) nano-powder was successfully synthesized via a simple precipitation route without any surfactant. The prepared nano-powder was applied for the facile synthesis of 1-amidoallcyl-2-naphthol derivatives using multi-component reaction of aldehydes, 2-naphthol and an amide (or urea) in high yields.
