  An aqueous dispersion of a polyetheramine and a nanoparticle filler forms a gas barrier coating. The filler is present in an amount of from 1 wt.% up to 50 wt.% (dry basis) and is pre-treated with acid or base in dispersed aqueous form prior to being combined with a water-borne polyetheramine matrix resin. The coating composition is characterized by exhibiting a reduction in gas permeability of at least 2-fold as compared with a like coating formed of the polyetheramine alone.
