arachno-B9H13(SMe(2)) was transformed into arachno-MeSiB(9)H(12)(NHMe(2)) (1) by reaction with MeHSi(NMe(2))p. The new silaborane was characterized by H-1, Si-29, and B-11 NMR techniques. The {SiB9} cluster geometry is related to the B10H142- framework, with the Si atom occupying position 6.

2-disila-closo-dodecaborane(12) (DMSB) , an air-sensitive solid, the structure of whose 1:1 benzene solvate was determined by X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the space group P ccn ( 56) with a 10.081(1) b = 10 . 666(8) A, c = 16.130(5) A, V = 1734(2)A3 and Z = 4. Final R = 0.044 and RW = 0.058. Several new compounds containing both chloro and dimethylaminogroups linked to silicon have been prepared. The general method involved reacting a solution of the appropriate polychlorosilane in ether at ca. - 50° with a chilled ethereal solution of dimethylamine. Prepared in this fashion were CH3Si(NMe2)Cl2, CH3Si(NMe2)2-Cl, PhSi(NMe2)Cl2, PhSi(NMe2)2Cl, CH3(H)Si(NMe2)Cl, (CH3)2Si(NMe2)Cl, CH2CH(CH3)Si(NMe2)Cl
