  3-Alkyl-3-oxo-1-aminopropane-1,1-diphosphonic acids and water-soluble salts thereof corresponding to the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents an unbranched or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl group, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another represent methyl or ethyl, and each M represents H or a cation of a water-soluble base, to a process for producing these compounds wherein oxonitriles corresponding to the formula: ##STR2## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as defined above, are reacted with mixtures of a phosphorus trihalide PX.sub.3, where X represents fluorine, chlorine or bromine, with phosphorous acid, the reaction mixture is hydrolyzed, and the reaction products are optionally converted into water-soluble salts; and to the use of the resulting compounds corresponding to general formula (III).

  Erfindung betrifft 3-Alkyl-3-oxo-1-aminopropan-1.1- diphosphonsäuren und ihre wasserlöslichen Salze der allgemeinen Formel (III) in der R' für unverzweigte oder verzweigte Alkylreste mit 1 bis 8 C-Atomen, R2 und R3 unabhängig voneinander für Methyl oder Ethyl und M für H oder ein Kation einer wasserlöslichen Base stehen, ein Verfahren zur Herstellung derartiger Verbindungen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man Oxonitrile der allgemeinen Formel (IV) mit den obigen Bedeutungen für R', R2 und R3 mit Mischungen von Phosphortrihalogeniden PX3, in denen X für Fluor, Chlor oder Brom steht, mit Phosphoriger Säure umsetzt, die Reaktionsmischung hydrolysiert, die Reaktionsprodukte gegebenenfalls in wasserlösliche Salze überführt und nach an sich bekannten Methoden isoliert und reinigt, die Verwendung der so erhaltenen Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel (III) in mikrobistatisch wirksamen Mitteln neben üblichen Träger- und Hilfsstoffen sowie Zusammensetzungen, die eine oder mehrere Verbindungen der allgememeinen Formel (III) in mikrobistatisch wirksamen Konzentrationen neben üblichen Träger- und Hilfsstoffen enthalten.
