  A new and general one-pot transformation of aromatic aldehydes to fluorinated olefins containing -CH=C(Cl)CF3 or -CH=C(F)CClF2 moieties is described.   A facile and practical method for the synthesis of ArC≡CCF3 is described which involves (1) conversion of aldehydes ArCHO into ArCH=CClCF3 with 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethane, zinc powder, and acetic anhydride in one-pot and (2) dehydrochlorination with sodium t-butoxide or sodium amide/t-butyl alcohol.

  The improved one-pot Wittig reaction had been used to prepare trifluoromethyl-containing olefins under solvent-free conditions. Treatment of aldehydes with PPh3 and CF3CCl3 in the presence of K2CO3 at 100C afforded 2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoro-2-alkenes in good to moderate yields.
