FeCl2 (5 mol %) catalyzes a smooth and convenient acylation of functionalized arylzinc halides at 50 °C (2–4 h) and benzylic zinc chlorides at 25 °C (0.5–4 h) with a variety of acidchlorides leading to polyfunctionalized diaryl and aryl heteroaryl ketones.

In the presence of catalytic amounts of RhH(CO)(PPh3)3 and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppBz), acyl groups were transferred between benzyl ketones and thioesters/aryl esters. The rhodium complex catalyzed the cleavage of ketone CO–C bonds and intermolecular rearrangement giving unsymmetric ketones.
