Simple procedures have been developed for the synthesis of 2-chloro-5,5-dimethyl-2,5-dihydro- 1,2 lambda(5)-oxaphosphole 2-oxide by one-pot electrophilic cyclization of 3-methylbuta-1,2-dien-1-ylphosphonic dichloride and of (Z)-4-[dialkyl(diphenyl)phosphoryl]-2-methylbut-3-en-1-ol by reaction of 2-chloro-5,5-dimethyl- 2,5-dihydro-1,2 lambda(5)-oxaphosphole 2-oxide with organomagnesium compounds.

This is the first example of a Lewis acid-promoted intermolecular hydroarylation of allenes bearing electron-withdrawing substituents. Plausible reaction mechanisms have been proposed on the basis of the investigated reactions, and NMR analysis and DFT studies of the intermediate cationic species.
Abstract The chemistry of phosphorus derivatives of salicylicacid has been revived and the synthesis of alkadienephosphonate derivatives of salicylicacid is reported.
