The present invention relates to a modifier for aromatic polyesters comprising polyhydric phenol residues and residues of aromatic polycarboxylic acid, acid halide or acid anhydride thereof, and the modifier comprises a material having a structure composed of a first residue selected from the group consisting of divalent residues represented by Formula (I): —Ar—W 1 x —Ar— and by Formula (II): —Ar—, the first residues being bonded to two identical or different second residues selected from the group consisting of monovalent residues represented by Formula (III): and monovalent residues represented by Formula (IV): —O—C(O)—R 7 —.

    In general the present invention concerns a method for production of highly pure m,m'- coupled bis(4-alkylphenol) derivatives from particular lignin-derived 4-alkylphenol derivatives. More specifically this invention relates to a process for the selective purification of m,m'- coupled bis(4-alkylphenol) derivatives by selective crystallization in the presence of residual substrate and isomeric and/or oligomeric by-products/impurities. This new class of bis(4-alkylphenol)s are valuable precursors for renewable thermoplastics, (high temperature) resins/thermosets, bio-derived C15-C19 fuel additives, antioxidants, UV-stabilizers, plasticizers, soluble n-type perylene copolymers and/or positive working photoresists.

    The present invention provides an aromatic polyester which is substantially free from the occurrence of coloration and retains significantly high transparency even after being thermally processed at high temperature and which has high flowability. The aromatic polyester contains a polyhydric phenol residue and a residue of any one of aromatic polycarboxylic acid, halide thereof, and anhydride thereof, and terminals of the aromatic polyester have a structure represented by the formula -C(O)-R. The aromatic polyester has an end-capping rate of 90% or higher and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) ranging from 3,000 to 1,000,000.

    Methods for manufacturing articles of footwear are provided. In various aspects, the methods comprise utilizing additive manufacturing methods with foam particles. In some aspects, the disclosed methods comprise selectively depositing a binding material on foam particles in a target area such that the binding material coats at least a portion of defining surfaces of the foam particles with the binding material. The binding material is then cured to affix foam particles in the target area to one another. In various aspects, the disclosed methods can be used to manufacturer articles with sub-regions that differential levels of affixing between the foam particles, and thereby resulting in sub-regions with different properties such as density, resilience, and/or flexural modulus. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.
