  Electrophilic nitration of 2-trifluoromethylchromone and its 6- and 7-methoxy derivatives affords 6-, 5-, and 8-nitro derivatives, respectively, while 5,7-dimethyl-2-trifluoromethylchromone yields a 6,8-dinitro derivative. Radical chlorination results in 3-chloro derivatives.

  mercaptoacetate in the presence of triethylamine results in the formation of 1,2-dihydrothieno[2,3-c]chromen-4-ones and diethyl 3,4-dithiadipate in high yields. Oxidation of the first compounds with nitrogen dioxide gave 1,2-dihydrothieno[2,3-c]chromen-3,4-diones which were converted into thieno[2,3-c]chromen-4-ones.

  The reaction of 2-polyfluoroalkylchromones with ketimines, derived from aromatic methyl ketones and isopropyl­amine, gives 2,6-diaryl-4-polyfluoroalkylpyridines in moderate to low yields. Benzamidine and guanidine also react with 2-polyfluoroalkylchromones to afford the corresponding 2,6-disubstituted 4-polyfluoroalkylpyrimidines.
