  The invention describes novel 1-arylimidazoles of formula (I) wherein typically preferred substituents are: X is S(O)nR1, in which R1 is an alkyl group, preferably a methyl group, which is fully substituted by halogen atoms, and n is 0, 1 and 2; Y is selected from a hydrogen or halogen atom or a group selected from methylsulfenyl, methylsulfinyl or methylsulfonyl; Z is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, preferably methyl; and R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are selected from a hydrogen or a halogen atom or a group selected from an unsubstituted or halo-substituted alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulfenyl, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl.
