  Compounds of formula (I) (wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or acyl group, R2 represents an alkyl group and R3 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, optionally substituted pyridyloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, amino or mono- or di-substituted amino group) and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof have useful analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. They may be prepared by condensing a 5-amino-2-(R3)pyridine with a ketone of formula R2COCH3, or with a condensation product of said ketone, to give a compound of formula (1) in which R1 represents a hydrogen atom and then, if desired, alkylating or acylating that compound.
