    A lubricating oil composition for fluid dynamic bearings which comprises 50 to 100% by mass of an ether compound comprising at least one ether bond and having 11 to 34 carbon atoms as the base oil and has a kinematic viscosity of at least 2.2 mm 2 /s at 100° C. is provided. The composition has excellent viscosity characteristics such as excellent fluidity at low temperatures and a small decrease in the viscosity in a high temperature range, exhibits lower evaporability, excellent energy saving property and excellent heat stability and is advantageously used for compact fluid dynamic bearings used under rotation at a high speed.

    The present invention provides a process for producing a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon prepared using an α-olefin as a raw material and represented by the general formula (1), including the steps of: (I) producing a vinylidene olefin by dimerizing the α-olefin in the presence of a metallocene complex catalyst; (II) further dimerizing the vinylidene olefin in the presence of an acid catalyst; and (III) hydrogenating the obtained dimer. Further, there are provided a lubricant composition containing the saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon compound produced by the above process, a bearing oil consisting of the lubricant composition, and making use of the same, a bearing and gyral equipment. The saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon compounds produced by the process of the present invention have low-temperature fluidity, exhibiting low evaporativity, and excellent in thermal stability and oxidation stability. Thus, the saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon compounds are suitable for use as, for example, a base oil of lubricant composition for hydraulic pressure, turbine, working machine, bearing, gear, metal-working, etc.

    A lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines comprising a base oil containing at least one component selected from an α-olefin oligomer having 16 to 40 carbon atoms obtained by oligomerizing α-olefin(s) having 2 to 20 carbon atoms using a metallocene catalyst, and the hydrogenated derivative thereof; an α-olefin oligomer having 16 to 40 carbon atoms derived from an α-olefin dimer obtained using a metallocene catalyst, and the hydrogenated derivative thereof; and the like. The lubricating oil composition has an excellent low-temperature fluidity, a low evaporativity, and a good oxidation stability.

    A lubricating oil composition prepared by incorpo­rating a phosphoric acid ester, phosphorous acid ester, phosphoric acid ester amine salt or phosphorous acid ester amine salt and an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid compound into a base oil, or further incorporating an alkylamine compound and/or succinimide or perbasic magnesium or calcium sulfonate. This lubricating oil composition has excellent characteristics such that the change of the friction coefficient with the lapse of time is small and the friction coefficient is stable, and the change of the friction coefficient by the change of the oil temperature is small. This lubricating oil composition is especially valuable as a lubricating oil for an automatic transmission of an automobile.
