thermochromism of two coordination compounds of the type [Ni(AA)3][PdCl4]·nH2O, where AA = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (bathophen), is reported. The colour change is caused by an unusual thermal behaviour of the complex cation-complex anion type coordination compounds, namely the migration of ligands, in the solid state, between the coordination spheres of metal ions
