    Di-mu(3)-oxo bridging tetranuclear titanium complex (3), obtained by exposing [Ti(OPri)(2)(BINOLato)] (2) to hydrated molecular ;sieves (MS) 4A, is a precursor of active BINOL-Ti catalyst (1). Further treatment of 3 with hydrated MS 4A leads to the mu(3)-oxo titanium cluster (1), which is the efficient asymmetric catalyst for carbonyl-ene reactions. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.     A series of chiral binaphthyl titanium alkoxide complexes were synthesized. Among them, chiral titanium complex [(R)-3,3'-dibromo-2,2'-binaphthoxy](di-tert-butoxy)titanium(IV) (R-3) exists as a crystallographic C2 dimer in the solid state but a monomer in solution at room temperature.     The active species of binaphthol-derived titanium catalyst 1, which is used as an efficient catalyst for glyoxylate–ene reactions, is primarily composed of a µ 3 -oxo (Ti 3 O) species, for which the molecular sieves 4A employed in the catalyst preparation act as a H 2 O donor.

  • Catalytic ring-opening polymerization of l-lactide by titanium biphenoxy-alkoxide initiators

    Six different titanium biphenolate complexes were synthesized and investigated as initiators for the ring opening polymerization of L-lactide in the bulk phase but typically below the degradation temperature of the monomer. All the titanium complexes are effective in forming polylactide with good conversions. The nature and steric bulk of the phenolic ligands coordinated to the central titanium greatly influence polymer properties. In all cases the PLA obtained display low molecular weights and narrow disperisities. Both H-1 and C-13 NMR spectra indicate the polymers to be essentially isotactic in nature. High crystallinity and controlled morphology of polylactides are uniquely different compared to conventional high molecular weight PLA obtained with tin based initiator. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
