3,6-Substituted tetrazines 2 (a: R-2 = 2-pyridyl or b: CO2Me) react with 2,3,9,10-(R-1)(4)-dihydro-6,13-ethenopentacene 3 in solution at elevated temperature to the corresponding pentacene 1 (a: R-1 = H, b: OBn, c: F).
