    To provide a process for producing a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine simply and in a small number of steps without requiring multi-stage reaction steps; a novel catalyst composition whereby a polyurethane product can be obtained with good productivity and good moldability without bringing about odor problems or environmental problems; and a process for producing a polyurethane resin using the catalyst composition. For example, a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine is produced by subjecting a mono-substituted dihydroxyalkylpiperazine and/or a di-substituted hydroxyalkylpiperazine to an intramolecular dehydration condensation reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst. Further, for example, a polyurethane resin is produced by using a catalyst composition which comprises a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine (A), and an amine compound (B) having, in its molecule, one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of a hydroxy group, a primary amino group and a secondary amino group, or a tertiary amine compound (C) having a value of [blowing reaction rate constant/gelling reaction rate constant] of at least 0.5.

    A catalyst for producing a polyurethane, comprising a dialkylaminoalkyl alcohol represented by the formula (I):         R1R2N-X-OH     (I) wherein each of R1 and R2 is independently an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and X is a branched alkylene group having 4 to 8 carbon atoms; a process for producing a polyurethane, comprising reacting a polyol component with an isocyanate component in the presence of the above-mentioned catalyst for producing a polyurethane; and a process for producing a polyurethane foam, comprising reacting a polyol component with an isocyanate component in the presence of the above-mentioned catalyst for producing a polyurethane, and a compound having a primary amino group and a tertiary amino group in its molecule, and a blowing agent. The polyurethane can be used as heat insulating materials for construction materials, electric refrigerators, refrigerated warehouses, baths and the like, interior materials for automobiles, furnishings, cushioning materials for beddings, various sealing materials and the like.

    Flexible polyurethane foams are produced by reacting a polyol and a polyisocyanate in the presence of a catalysts and other auxiliary agents, the process characterized in that a tin-based catalyst is not used. One process includes reacting a polyether polyol containing at least 5% by weight of an oxyethylene group in the chain and having a terminal secondary OH group, a toluene diisocyanate and/or a derivative, and one or more specified imidazole compounds, the process conducted in the absence of a tin-based catalyst.

    A process for producing a flexible polyurethane foam which comprises foaming a starting material composition (E) comprising a high molecular weight polyoxyalkylene polyol (A), an organic polyisocyanate compound (B), a blowing agent (C) and a catalyst (D) in a closed mold, characterized in that at least a part of the high molecular weight polyoxyalkylene polyol (A) is a polyoxyalkylene polyol (p) having at least two hydroxyl groups on the average and having a molecular weight (Mc) per hydroxyl group of from 1,800 to 2,800 and a total unsaturation value (USV) of at most 0.08 meq/g, and that the air flowability of a flexible polyurethane foam obtained by foaming the starting material composition (E) in a thickness of 26 mm, is at most 0.085 m3/min.
