Enantioselective synthesis of axially chiral sulfur-containing biaryl derivatives through the electrophilic sulfenylation of biaryl phenols has been achieved for the first time. This catalyticasymmetric system, which involves sequential desymmetrization and kinetic resolution, is enabled by a combination of a novel 3,3′-disubstituted BINOL-derived selenide catalyst and an achiral sulfonic acid. first example of the cobalt–porphyrin-catalyzed aerobic oxidativecoupling of phenols through oxidative C–H functionalization has been developed. In the presence of T(p-OMe)PPCo and Na2CO3, the oxidativecoupling of phenols with different substituents proceeded smoothly with O2 as a terminal oxidant to give the corresponding biaryl compounds in satisfactory yields. The biaryl derivatives are important
