New oxylipins from marine biomass. The first total synthesis of oxylipins, metabolites of γ-linolenic acid (GLA), dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA) were accomplished. These metabolites are potential biomarkers of oxidative injury in marine biomass and could be involved in the defense mechanisms of these microorganisms.
