Imino-ether complexes of platinum: cis-[PtCl2(NHC(OR)Me)2] and [PtCl4(NHC(OR)Me)2], where R = Me, Et and Pri. Preparation, characterization and X-ray structure for [PtCl4(NHC(OPri)Me)2]2

The reaction of cis-PtCl2(NCMe)2 with KOH or KOPh in MeOH, EtOH or Pr(i)OH produces the imino-ether complexes [PtCl2(NH = C(OR)Me)2] which have been characterized by IR, NMR and elemental analysis. The crystal structure of [PtCl2(NH = C(OPr(i))Me)2]2 was determined by X-ray diffraction. Each molecule comprises two units of [PtCl2(NH = C(OPr(i))Me)2] with a Pt---Pt distance of 3.327(1) angstrom. The lack of any bridging ligand suggests the presence of hydrogen bonds. The N(4)-Cl(3') and N(11)-Cl(2') distances are within the range of van der Waals' interactions. Oxidation reactions of these compounds with C6H5ICl2 give the corresponding platinum(IV) complexes [PtCl4(NH = C(OR)Me)2].
