  The present invention relates to methods for treating or preventing dental plaque, caries, or gingival or periodontal diseases of the oral cavity in humans or lower animals, with reduced staining of teeth or dentures. The methods comprise topically applying to the oral surfaces of the teeth or dentures of the humans or lower animals: (a) a safe and effective amount of a monoperoxyphthalate compound, and (b) a safe and effective amount of an anti-plaque bis-biguanide compound. The present invention also relates to compositions for achieving such treatments.
