A new cardenolide, proceragenin, has been isolated from Calotropis procera. Its structure was determined as 7-beta,14-beta-dihydroxy-5-alpha-card-20(22)-enolide through spectroscopic studies including 2D NMR and NOE difference measurement. Its biological screening showed antibacterial activity against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
