Peculiarities of the nitration of 2-methyl-4-methoxymethyl-5-cyano-6-pyridone in a mixture of HNO3 and H2SO4

successfully used for the production of nitroderivatives of 2and 4-pyridones [i, 2]. Actually, in the case of nitration of 2-methoxymethyl-4-methyl-5-cyano-6-pyridone (I) and 2,4-dimethyl-5-cyano-6-pyridone (II) with a mixture of HN03 and H=SO~, we isolated 2-methoxymethyl-3-nitro-4-methyl-5-cyano-6-pyridone (III) and 2,4-dimethyl-3-nitro-5-cyano-6-pyridone (IV) with yields of 56 and 65%, respectively
