    A process for making ortho alkoxy bisphenol monomers includes contacting an (alk-1-enyl)alkoxyphenol (type 1) with an alkoxyphenol (type 2) in the presence of an acidic catalyst. Both type of renewable phenols (type 1 and 2) can be generated from lignocellulosic biomass. The use of such alkoxy phenols as a precursor to bisphenol monomers has the potential to reduce the cost and environmental impact of structural materials, while meeting or exceeding the performance of current petroleum-derived polymers, such as thermoplastics and thermoset resins.

    A subject for the invention is to provide a method of production for stably producing a polycarbonate excellent in transparency, color tone, heat resistance, moldability, and mechanical strength and having excellent optical properties. The invention relates to a method of producing a polycarbonate from a dihydroxy compound ingredient including at least a dihydroxy compound having the structure represented by the following formula (1) in the molecule and from a carbonic acid diester, the method including mixing the dihydroxy compound having the structure represented by the following formula (1) in the molecule with the carbonic acid diester in a molten state at a temperature of from 70°C to 240°C and a pressure of from 0.06 MPa to 0.20 MPa for a period of from 0.5 hours to 30 hours and then causing a transesterification reaction to proceed at a pressure lower than 0.06 MPa to produce a polycarbonate,         [Chem. 1] -CH2-O-     (1) (provided that the structure of formula (1) in which the oxygen atom is bonded to a hydrogen atom is excluded).

    The present invention relates to a polycarbonate resin which contains at least constituent units derived from a dihydroxy compound having a linking structure of the following structural formula (1), characterized in that the content therein of an aromatic monohydroxy compound which may have an alkyl group having 5 or less carbon atoms is 700 ppm or less and the content therein of the dihydroxy compound having a linking structure of structural formula (1) is 60 ppm or less, wherein no hydrogen atom is bonded to the oxygen atom contained in structural formula (1).

    Provided is a prepreg resin composition, containing: a urethane (meth)acrylate (A) that is a reaction product of polyisocyanate (a1), polyol (a2), and hydroxy alkyl (meth)acrylate (a3); and a polymerization initiator (B), as an essential component, in which the polyisocyanate (a1) is at least one polyisocyanate selected from 2,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate, 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate, a carbodiimide modified product of 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate, and polymethylene polyphenyl polyisocyanate, and the polyol (a2) has an aromatic-ring and an oxyalkylene structure. The prepreg resin composition of the invention is excellent in workability and molding properties, and is capable of forming a molded article excellent in various physical properties such as external appearance and heat resistance, and thus, can be preferably used in a prepreg and a molded article thereof.
