Previous studies with progesterone-4-14C suggested that a radioiodinated analog might be useful for photoscanning the adrenal gland and associated tumors. 21-Iodoprogesterone was prepared by conversion of deoxycorticosterone to its mesylate and subsequent displacement with iodide.
