A lubricant for a two cycle engine having as a basic oil a polyoxyalkylene glycol derivative expressed by general formula (1) which can realize, when used to lubricate bearing portions and sliding portions of the two cycle engine, remarkable reduction in generation of exhaust smoke, improvement in start-up capability, improvement in cleanability of preventing clogging of an exhaust system with carbon, improvement in cleanability inside the engine at high and low temperatures and improvement in withstand-load properties.
