  5,6,7,8-Tetrahydronaphthalenes having the structure ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, are useful as blood pressure lowering agents. In the above formula R.sub.1 can be hydrogen or alkyl; R.sub.2 is alkyl; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 can each be hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, or arylalkoxy, but both cannot be hydroxyl. Those compounds wherein at least one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is other than hydrogen are novel, and constitute a part of this invention.

  具有结构##STR1##和其药学上可接受的盐的5,6,7,8-四氢萘类化合物，可用作降血压药物。在上述公式中，R.sub.1可以是氢或烷基；R.sub.2是烷基；R.sub.3和R.sub.4可以分别是氢、羟基、烷氧基或芳基氧基，但两者不能同时是羟基。其中至少一个R.sub.3和R.sub.4不是氢的化合物是新颖的，并构成本发明的一部分。
