  2-溴龙胆醇（一种对乳腺癌细胞系具有细胞毒性的卤代化合物）的首次合成通过四个步骤实现。关键步骤包括(i)芳香族化合物的甲酰化、(ii)溴化、(iii)脱甲基化和(iv)还原。在MgCl 2 和Et 3 N存在下，由4-甲氧基苯酚(2)制备化合物3，收率92％，然后通过3的溴化得到中间体4，收率78％。随后，4 用 BBr3 直接去甲基化得到中间体 5，产率 72%。最后，通过使用NaBH 4 还原5来制备标题化合物1，产率87%。4-甲氧基苯酚的总产率为45%。该方法简单，反应条件温和。
