The silacyclobutanes CH2CH2CH2SiClX (2), X=Cl, and (3), X=Me, are attacked by the oxyl (CF3)2NO· (1) at the 3-position leading to the monosubstituted products (CF3)2NOCHCH2SiClXCH2 (8), X = Cl, and (9), X = Me, and a minor amount of the disubstituted product (CF3)2NOCHCH2SiMeClCHON(CF3)2 (10) which arises via the silacyclobutene CH2CH=CHSiMeCl (17).
