Aryloxysulphur(IV) fluorides result from the interaction between aryl silyl ethers and sulphur tetrafluoride and its derivatives. The derivatives prepared [ArOSF3(Ar = Ph; o-, m-, p- Tol; o-, m-, p- FC6H4; m-, p-ClC6H4), (ArO)2SF2(Ar = Ph; m-, p-Tol; m-, p-FC6H4; m-, p- ClC6H4; p-CF3C6H4; p-O2NC6H4), (ArO)3SF (Ar = Ph or C6F5), (PhO)4S, (C6H4O2)2S, ArOSF2CF3(Ar = Ph or C6F5), ArOSF2C3F7(Ar =p-CF3C6H4

The preparation of the sulfurane CF3SCl2F is reported. Upon sublimation of the sulfonium salt CF3SCl2+AsF6- the compounds CF3SCl2F and AsF5 coexist in the gaseous phase. After trapping AsF5 as KAsF6 extremely instable CF3SCl2F is isolated and characterised by IR-, Raman- and 19F-NMR-spectroscopy.

trans-S(CF3)ClF4 has been prepared by the reaction between S(CF3)F3 and Cl2 in the presence of caesium fluoride. Its properties and addition reactions with olefins and acetylenes to give the compounds RCH2CH2Cl, RCH2CH(Cl)Me, RCF2CF2Cl, RCF(CF3)CF2Cl, RCF2CF(Cl)CF3, RCH2CF2Cl, RCF(H)CF2Cl, RCF2CFCl2, R(CF2CFCl)2 Cl, and RCH = CHCl [R =trans-S(CF3)F4] are described.

Trifluoromethylsulphur chloride tetrafluoride, CF3SF4CI, results from the action of chlorine on CF3SF3 in the presence of caesium fluoride, and CH3N:SF2 reacts with chlorine to give CH2CIN:SF2, CHCI2N:SF2, and CF3N:SCl2.
