bismuth(III) salts as catalysts for the Westphalen and "backbone" rearrangements of 5 beta,6 beta-epoxysteroids is reported. This method is particularly sensitive to changes on solvent, temperature, stereochemistry of starting epoxysteroid, and its substituent at C17.
