  The course of the condensation reaction between 1,2-dihydroisoquinolines and aromatic aldehydes in acid solution has been defined by the isolation and characterisation of 4-benzylidene-1, 4-dihydroisoquinoline derivatives. The scope of the base-catalysed condensation between isoquinoline methiodide and aromatic aldehydes has been examined and some earlier literature corrected.
