The new nonadentate tripodal ligand trenphen (tris[(1,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxamido)-ethyl]amine) has been synthesized by condensation of tren [tris(2-aminoethyl)amine] with an excess of 1,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxylic acyl chloride.
