Synthesis, characterization and structures of zirconocene complexes of sterically demanding pentaphenylcyclopentadienyl and tetraphenyl-m-tolyl cyclopentadienyl ligands
The synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of zirconiumcomplexes containing bulky pentaarylcyclopentadienyl ligands are reported. The monocyclopentadienyl 12-electron complex, trichloropentaphenylcyclopentadienylzirconium(IV), C5Ph5ZrCl3 (I), has an unusual monomeric structure in the solid state and has short Zr–ligand distances suggesting that the complex has significant Lewis acidity

The preparation and characterisation of [Mn(eta(5)-C5Ph5)(CO)(3)] (1), [Mn(eta(5)-C5Ph5)(CO)(2)(PMe2Ph)] (2), and [Mn(eta(5)-C-5(p-tol)(5))(CO)(3)] (3) are described; these complexes are the first reported fully characterised C5Ar5- derivatives of Group 7. Compounds (1) and (3) are reversibly oxidised at +0.98 and +0.89 V, respectively (versus Fc(+/0)), significantly more positive than the oxidation of the analogous [Mn(eta(5)-C5H5)(CO)(3)]. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of (1) and (2) (refined to R-1(F) 0.0967, wR(2)(F-2) 0.2971 and R-1(F) 0.0472, wR(2)(F-2) 0.1356, respectively) are also reported. (C) 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
