Heteroaryltin compounds. The chemistry and 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy of some 3-thienyltin halides, and a comparison with 2-thienyl and 2-furyl analogues

The preparation of a range of (3-thienyl)tin halides, (3-C4H3S)nSnX4-n (n 2 or 3; X Cl, Br or I), and some complexes with donor ligands, is described. Mössbauer spectroscopy indicates that the halides have unassociated, tetrahedral, structures. The related 2-thienyl- (and 2-furyl-) tin halides have also been prepared and characterised by Mössbauer spectroscopy, but are much less stable.
