Synthesis of a Photochromic Conjugated Polymer Incorporating Spirobenzopyran in the Backbone

Photochromic conjugated polymer with photochemically isomerizable spirobenzopyran (SP) moiety as part of the conjugated backbone was synthesized. Upon irradiation with UV light of 365 nm, a new absorption band appeared above 500 nm due to the formation of the merocyanine (MC) form, which corresponds to a highly conjugated structure.
