An organocatalytic oxidative synthesis of N-protected tetrahydroisoquinolines is described by C–H functionalization via intermediate peroxides. The peroxides were synthesized from tert-butylhydroperoxide under metal-free thermal conditions and were converted into the final products by Bronsted acid catalyzed substitution.
