  Xanthinylmethylthiazolidines of formula I wherein p is zero or 1, R is 1,3-dimethylxanthin-7-yl or 3,7-dimethylxanthin-1-yl, R1 is hydrogen or an acyl group, R2 is hydrogen or a free or esterified carboxy group, R3 and R4 are both hydrogen or methyl, p is zero or 1, their salts, enantiomers or diastereoisomers are described. The compounds I are useful as mucus regulating, bronchodilators and antitussive agents.
