  Novel oxabicyclononane ether derivatives have the general formula:- where each of R1 - R4 independently is hydrogen or a substituent and W is optionally substituted phenyl or a heterocyclic ring. The compounds show selective herbicidal activity and may be used to control the growth of undesired vegetation in e.g. soybeans, cotton, sugar beet, rape, corn, wheat, barley and particularly in rice.
