  [2+2]-photocycloadditions between (hetero) threemembered rings and azo groups have been performed with systems 3, 5 and 7 which are transformed into cage compounds 4, 6 and 8. By competing reactions under different conditions photoreduction of the azo group in 5a or 7 induces a new type of transannular reaction yielding 9 and 10.
