  The title compound, (C9H6)(2), was obtained by the coupling of the carbene C9H6: derived from 1-diazoindene, C9H6N2, in the presence of [Ru-3(CO)(12)]. The molecule is centrosymmetric and completely planar. The six-membered rings have aromatic character and are connected by an extended pi-electron system.
