    The invention is a process for producing a rubber composition containing at least one rubber component (A) selected from natural rubbers and synthetic diene rubbers, a filler containing an inorganic filler (B), a silane coupling agent (C) and a vulcanization accelerator (D), wherein the rubber composition is kneaded in multiple stages, the rubber component (A), all or a portion of the inorganic filler (B), all or a portion of the silane coupling agent (C) and the vulcanization accelerator (D) are added and kneaded in the first stage of kneading, and the specific energy for kneading in the first stage is from 0.05 to 1.50 kWh/kg. The specific energy is obtained by dividing the power consumption by the motor in the kneading device in the first stage of kneading by the total mass of the rubber composition therein. In the process, the coupling function activity can be further increased and a rubber composition favorably having a low-heat-generation property and having good abrasion resistance can be obtained.

    Provided are processes for producing a rubber composition, which enable a suitably low heat-generating rubber composition to be obtained by further improving coupling function activity of a silane coupling agent. More specifically, provided is a process for producing a rubber composition comprising a rubber component (A) comprising at least one selected from natural rubbers and synthetic diene rubbers, a filler containing an inorganic filler (B), a silane coupling agent (C), and at least two kinds of chemical agents (D) and (E) selected from guanidines, sulfenamides, thiazoles, thiurams, dithiocarbamates, thioureas, and xanthates, wherein the rubber composition is kneaded in a plurality of stages wherein, in the first stage (X) of kneading, the rubber component (A), all or a portion of the inorganic filler (B), all or a portion of the silane coupling agent (C), and at least two kinds of the chemical agents (D) and (E) are added and kneaded. Also provided is a process for producing a rubber composition, wherein the rubber composition is kneaded in a kneading step comprising three or more stages wherein, in the first stage (X) of kneading, the rubber component (A), all or a portion of the inorganic filler (B), all or a portion of the silane coupling agent (C) are kneaded; in a stage (Y) after the first stage but before the last stage of kneading, at least two kinds of the chemical agents (D) and (E) are added and kneaded; and, in the last stage (Z) of kneading, a vulcanizing agent is added and kneaded.

    Provided is a method for producing a rubber composition containing: 100 parts by mass of a rubber component (A) including at least 50 mass% of a styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber; a filler (B) including 80-130 parts by mass of silica; a silane coupling agent (C); 7-20 parts by mass of a thermoplastic resin (D); at least one compound (E) selected from guanidines, sulfenamides, and thiazoles; an organic acid compound (F); and a vulcanizing agent (G). The method includes kneading the rubber composition over a plurality of stages. The kneading includes: a first kneading stage of kneading 100 parts by mass of the rubber component (A), the filler (B) including at least 80 parts by mass of silica, the silane coupling agent (C), at least 7 parts by mass of the thermoplastic resin (D), all or some of the compound (E), and all or some of the organic acid compound (F); and a second kneading stage of, after the first kneading stage, kneading the vulcanizing agent (G) and a kneaded product prepared through kneading in the first kneading stage.
