  Secondary disazo dyes are made by coupling a diazotised aniline or naphthylamine or a homologue or halogen or alkoxy derivative thereof with a 2 : 5-dialkoxyaniline, diazotising the aminoazo body and coupling in acid medium with 1-b -hydroxyethyl-5-naphthol. They are suitable for cellulose esters and ethers. In examples dyestuffs from the following aminoazo compounds are described: (1) o-chloroaniline --> 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline (greenish blue on cellulose acetate when applied according to Specification 224,077, [Class 15 (ii)]); (2) o-toluidine --> 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline (reddish blue); (3) a -naphthylamine --> 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline (greenish blue); (4) p-phenetidine --> 2 : 5 - diethoxyaniline (greenish - black); (5) aniline --> 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline (greenish-blue). 1 - b - Hydroxyethylamino - 5 - naphthol is made by heating 1-amino-5-naphthol with aqueous ethylene-chlorhydrin in presence of chalk. In the Provisional Specification a reference is made to coupling in alkaline medium in the final position and Specification 391,862 is referred to.
