gave no addition product, but did 9-chlorofluorene in 85–89% yield. The same reaction in carbon tetrachloride gave 9,9′-dichloro-9,9′-bifluorenyl in 48% yield. Thus fluorenylidene has strong abstraction character. These chemical results suggest that fluorenylidene and 2,7-dibromofluorenylidene react in triplet state.
