  从先前提出的结构中分离出来的马尼考尔是倍半萜羟基羟甲基马酚酮。通过X射线分析了甘露醇及其双乙酸盐，建立了这种修改后的结构。甘露醇的甲基化得到三种二甲醚，主要通过13 C nmr光谱法（包括异核自旋种群反转方法）进行区分。主要的甲基化产物被证明经历了LAH重排，导致苯甲醇转化为甲基醚。
