  3,4-环氧四氢呋喃被兔肝微粒体环氧水解酶（MEH）水解，高度优先考虑水对（S）环氧碳的攻击，得到ee为96.5±0.3％的（R，R）-二醇。在酸催化的反式-3,3a-环氧八氢苯并呋喃的水解反应中，环氧乙烷环被打开，仅在叔碳原子上转化，从而得到相应的反式-二醇，而顺式水解异构体对区域的选择性较低，叔碳和仲碳的进攻比率为81:19。相同的两个底物的MEH催化水解仅发生在其仲环氧化物碳原子上，并且具有很高的对映选择性：只有顺式和反式环氧化物构型（3 S，3a R）的对映异构体是酶的底物，并给出了具有至少98％ee的相应（3 R，3a R）-二醇，相应的（3 R，3a S-环氧化物完全抵抗酶水解。这些结果与先前制定的MEH子空间要求的规则非常吻合。通过手性，NMR和手性色谱技术获得了新的手性化合物的绝对构型和光学纯度。八氢苯并呋喃衍生物的构型是从偶合常数得出的，与分子力学计算得出的构型非常吻合。
