helical viologens are reported. These novel compounds have sufficiently long singlet lifetimes to support bimolecular photochemical reactions. They are quenched with diffusion-controlled rates with dialkyl-, diaryl-, and alkyl-aryl sulfides presumably by a charge transfer/electron transfer mechanism.
