4-tetrahydro-1,4-iminonaphthalenes substantially modifies the Ag(I)-catalysed solvolytic behaviour of this system giving tetrahydrobenzazepine derivatives; small amounts of methanol in non-polar solvents have a profound effect favouring heterolytic, rather than homolytic, NCl cleavage.
