    By nitrosation of the mineralic acid salts of N-monosubstituted 1-naphthylamines (7) N-monosubstituted N'-hydroxy-naphthoquinone diiminium salts (9) are formed. These compounds can condense with their naphthylamine educts 7 to deeply colored N-(4-amino-naphthyl)-substituted naphthoquinone diiminium salts 11 which are available by the reaction of the mineralic acid salts of N-monosubstituted 1-naphthylamines 7 with one half equivalent of nitrous acid in acetic acid solution also. The new indaminium salts 11 absorb, in contrast to their deprotonated species 12 which exhibit intense absorption bands at about 550 nm, in the near infrared region very intensively at about 820 nm.

    The synthesis, colour, and constitution of methine dyes formed by condensation of benzaldehydes and nitrosobenzenes with dicyanovinyl analogues of indane-1,3-dione have been investigated. 3-Dicyanovinylindan-1-one (3) and 1,3-bisdicyanovinylindane (5) give magenta (λmax.ca. 560 nm) and blue (λmax.ca. 600 nm) dyes respectively with 4-dialkylaminobenzaldehydes.     Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur elektrochemischen Bestimmung eines Analyts in Gegenwart einer Oxidoreduktase und einer reduzierbaren Substanz, welche im Verlauf der Bestimmungsreaktion anfallende Elektronen von der Oxidoreduktase auf eine Elektrode überträgt und so zu einem Signal führt, das ein Maß für den zu bestimmenden Analyt ist, wobei die reduzierbare Substanz enzymatisch reduziert und an der Elektrode oxidiert wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die an der Elektrode durch Oxidation entstehende Substanz von der ursprünglich eingesetzten reduzierbaren Substanz verschieden ist, sowie ein entsprechendes Sensorelektrodensystem und die Verwendung hierfür geeigneter Verbindungen. Schließlich sind auch Gegenstand der Erfindung neue Nitrosoanilinderivate und ein Verfahren zu deren Herstellung.

    Systems and methods for multiple analyte analysis are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes determining concentrations of first and second analytes in a sample. The first and second analytes may be, for example, glucose and hydroxybutyrate. In this form, an indication related to the measured concentration of hydroxybutyrate is provided in response to determining that the concentration of hydroxybutyrate is above a predetermined value. In a further aspect of this form, a quantitative indication representative of the measured glucose concentration is automatically provided regardless of the value of the measured glucose concentration. In another embodiment, a system includes a meter configured to interact with a test element to assess first and second analytes in a sample. Further embodiments, forms, objects, features, advantages, aspects, and benefits shall become apparent from the description and drawings.

    Detection reagents, multi-analyte test elements, test systems, and multi-analyte measuring methods are provided. In particular, multi-analyte test elements have (1) a first working electrode and first counter electrode pair covered with a first analyte-specific reagent that includes an enzyme, a coenzyme and a first mediator and have (2) a second working electrode covered with a second analyte-specific reagent that includes an enzyme, a coenzyme and a second mediator, where the second mediator is different than the first mediator. The single counter electrode can be used as the counter electrode for both the first and second analyte measurements at their respective working electrodes. Moreover, the mediator concentrations, measurement ranges, and applied potential differences are not the same for each analyte-specific measurement.

    A test strip with a sample receiving chamber having a novel flared portion that terminates in a sample receiving opening. The flared portion provides a reservoir from which sample fluid can be drawn into the capillary or sample receiving chamber. The wider opening provided by the present invention is easier to “target” with a sample fluid. In preferred embodiments, the hydrophilic reagent layer extends to the dosing end or side of the test strip and further promotes wicking of the sample into the sample receiving chamber and thus reduces dose hesitation. In other preferred embodiments, a tapered dosing end is provided on the test strip in combination with the flared portion, and this combination create a test strip that will draw sample fluid into the sample receiving chamber regardless of where along the dosing edge of the test strip the fluid sample makes contact.
