By optimization of the CF3 transfer from (CF3)2Hg and (CF3)2Cd to SnBr4, preparative scale quantities of CF3SnBr3, (CF3)2SnBr2 and (CF3)4Sn have been obtained. Reaction of (CF3)4Sn with HI or BI3 yielded (CF3)3SnI whereas trifluoroniethyl/methyl exchange was observed with SnMe4. At 100°C a CF2 moiety is selectively eliminated from (CF3)4Sn and polymeric (CF3)3SnF, which was identified by NMR spectroscopy
